The Shire of Christmas Island has written a proposal for a feral cat eradication plan. This plan is to be launched in the near future which involves the removal of all feral cats and requires all domestic cats to be registered. This plan works in conjunction with the Local Cat Law 2004, which is to be gazetted.
Domestic chickens are to be kept in a confined area. Feral chickens that cause nuisance can be removed via a procedure by contacting the Shire. The property owner must give authorisation for the Shire’s Ranger to place a chicken trap on the property. Captured chickens are to be culled.
